A major aircraft OEM that had received a several billion-dollar contract to design a new, all composite, military aircraft approached RCM for manpower and management support. The OEM did not have the resources available to execute the contract because of other competing programs. The OEM contracted RCM to perform the majority of the Airframe Basic Data and Preliminary Design / Structural Analysis phase of the contract. Marketplace resource availability was constrained because the Statement of Work (SOW) required an all-composite airframe to be designed using Composites Part Design (CPD), a virtually new software. Additionally, all designers and analysts needed familiarity with the new concept of working within a Digital Mock-Up (DMU). To the delight of the customer, RCM ultimately (and quickly) staffed approximately 65 engineers to successfully complete the contract. RCM complemented their existing staff by recruiting approximately 40 engineers of all levels of experience. RCM proudly completed the project on schedule and within budget.
